Picknelly Aiming for Slot Machines
Paul
Picknelly is a Springfield hotel
developer, and is in the process of
looking into his next project – possibly
to be slot machines. He is looking at an
area near the Palmer turnpike exit and
thinks it would be the perfect place for
a hotel, as well as slot machines and a
casino. With the current climate of the
state looking to be more pro slot
machine than not, he thinks he stands a
good chance at getting it approved.
Picknelly knows that the hotel will be
nice there, but by adding a slot machine
casino to the mix it would bring in a
large chunk of revenue for Western
Massachusetts. It would also bring in
much needed jobs, which he thinks is
another reason why it might be approved.
With Governor Deval Patrick stating that
he is interested in bringing slot
machines to the state to help out with
the $1 billion shortage in the state’s
revenues, people like Picknelly think it
is good to strike while the iron is hot
– especially since there is currently a
bill sitting in the Senate that would
legalize slot machines in Hampden
County.
Picknelly says that if there is going to
be slot machines in Hampden County,
Palmer is the right place for them. He
says he is already in talks with the
owners of the land to see if a deal can
be made.
