Macau’s Slot Machines Get New Resident
Macau
is considered to be the next Las Vegas
when it comes to slot machines and
gambling, and has been the home of both
legalized gambling and Kim Jong-nam for
years now. Jong-nam is the eldest son of
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, and has
been living in Macau for the past three
years.
Macau used to belong to the Portuguese
until they gave it back to China six
years ago. Macau has a long history of
nuclear weapons disputes, money
laundering, illicit drugs, etc.; with
slot machines and gambling part of his
more recent reputation.
Many have been wondering what Jong-nam
might have been doing all this time
living in the slot machine and gambling
city, as he has kept a low profile; with
some speculating that he is not allowed
to return to his home country. Neither
the South Korean consulate nor the
Macau government knew why he would have
chosen the slot machine city as his new
home.
Jong-nam is considered next in line for
the leadership of North Korea, but many
feel that Jong-il will choose one of his
other sons instead. Jong-nam is seen
around town, but keeps mainly a low
profile. He goes to the club Lisboa,
hangs out with his friends, and once in
a great while supposedly plays the slot
machines, but is not a regular fixture
at the casinos.
Sources close to the one time future leader,
now part time slot machine gambler, say
that he seems to like the gambling city
– and that he is happier here than
anywhere else.
