New Slot Machines Put PA at $7 Million
Pennsylvania now has three casinos
running thousands of slot machines, and
now they have $7 million as well.
Amazingly, in its first week of being
open, Harrah’s Chester Casino &
Racetrack brought in $66 million in
wagers at its almost 2,800 slot
machines. Harrah’s is the third casino
to open in the state, and it is the
largest one open so far.
The state gets 55% tax revenue from the
casinos actual $6.3 million in gross
slot machine revenue. That $3.5 million,
added to the other casinos’ earnings,
brought in $7.6 million for the state
total. The Mohegan Sun is the smallest
casino in the state with almost 1,100
slot machines, and Philadelphia Park is
second in line with almost 2,100 slot
machines.
Year to date, the state has brought in
$22 million in slot machine tax revenue,
even though the state admits that the
initial interest in the casinos seems to
have waned a bit. The amount of revenue
from the slot machines has dropped,
since the beginning of the year. There
was a 13.7% decline at the Mohegan Sun
alone.
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino is
slated to open in Western Pennsylvania
this spring. They are currently building
a temporary facility, which will house
1,800 slot machines, with the permanent
facility to hold 3,000 slot machines.
They are currently ahead of schedule on
construction, so they may be able to
open sooner than originally anticipated.
