Texas Lottery Taking on a New Look
The
state of Texas is looking to make some
changes to their look, and many are
concerned that they are looking to make
them much more addictive. They believe
that with the new addition of online
games, Keno, and video slot machines -
that the lottery will start looking much
more like the slot machines and gambling
of neighboring states. The governor is
looking to bring in a consultant to
change the look, but some wonder what
exactly he is thinking.
If the state sells the lottery, it could
go for as much as $28 billion – and that
number hinges on what they think they
might be able to do with it to bring in
more money. If they legalize the lottery
slot machines, or let people start
purchasing them from home, then it
really becomes an online gaming issue,
which people don’t want to see.
Many of the groups in Texas support the
idea that they might sell the lottery,
but they want to keep it in a limited
capacity, and adding slot machines or
online gaming are not what they
imagined. The governor said that he is
simply looking to get the most “bang for
their buck” and however he needs to do
that is pretty much alright by him.
However, adding slot machines and online
gaming probably will not pass the
Legislature since they have been against
any sort of expanded gambling in the
state.
The state is looking to possibly make a
constitutional amendment to get these
things accomplished, as the keno and
video slot machines are not currently
legal in the state. The lotto sale might
need an amendment as well, but the
governor said that he needed to speak to
the attorney general to see if this was
a voter issue or an amendment issue.
