Says Yes To Slot Machines
It truly
was unclear as to how Miami-Dade County
would vote this time around. Last time
they were asked to vote for slot
machines, they decided that they did not
want them and vetoed the bill. However,
since then, they have had a change of
heart as they have seen Broward County
making hand over fist as they chose to
legalize the slot machines in their
county.
Well, this time the residents decided
they did want slot machines and they
voted accordingly. The racetracks are
thrilled as they know that they could
not continue to compete against those
that could offer racing as well as slot
machines. This will go a long way
towards putting them back in the game.
Robert Evans, President and CEO of
Churchill Downs said that the vote was
very important because now their track,
Calder Race Course, could compete with
not only Florida’s tracks but across the
country as well. Now that they can offer
slot machines as well, it is a “level
playing field.”
Evans said that any track without slot
machines is at a disadvantage these days
as so many have opted to offer them now.
The slot machines enable them to offer
higher quality racing as they can now
offer larger purses to their winners.
Evans says that now they will start
looking into how they are going to
expand the facility to include the new
slot machines.
