Airport Getting Slot Machines?
A new
bill in front of the Minnesota
government would add slot machines in
bars and the airport. The state is
looking for a way to bring in additional
income for the various programs that
they may have to cut without it, and are
looking at many different possibilities
of a solution.
Senator Chuck Wiger says that by adding
in the slot machines they could end up
earning an additional $1 billion for the
state. He is proposing the bill on
Monday that will allow the games in the
various locations including the
Minneapolis-St. Paul International
Airport. There are also more than 3,200
bars that would have access to the slot
machines should it be approved.
The additional revenue is already
earmarked for veterans assistance and
improving the school system within the
state. The additional revenue would
enable them to offer scholarships to
students who have a B or better average
on their report cards.
He says that Minnesota is going through
a tough time and that they need this
additional income to get them through
the months ahead. There are several
other Senators who are on the bill with
him as they believe that this is the way
for them to go at this time. They say
that without another option, this is the
best one that they have for now.
The bill will go to the House as well,
where they are hoping for approval.
