Eight
Gambling Machines Spotted
Upon
raiding the Pyramid Food Mart on Buena
Vista Road, police discovered eight
illegal slot machines. They had been
tipped off that there might be illegal
slot machines at the location, and had
been investigating the report. Police
officers went and waited at the Food
Mart and watched people going in and out
of a back room. They were dressed in
plain clothes and stood there waiting to
see what was going on.
Finally they entered the back room
themselves where they witnessed people
playing the illegal slot machines for
themselves. The Columbus Police
Department raided the establishment and
seized the illegal slot machines. They
were loaded on a truck and taken to
police headquarters.
The machines looked just like slot
machines and operated like them as well.
They had video screens and the player
would push a button and wait for the
wheels to stop spinning after they
pushed another button. If the player
matched three icons they won the game.
The slot machines stand around 5 feet
tall and have two buttons each.
There was also a slot for money to be
fed into the slot machine. Players could
put in any amount from $1 to $50 to play
the games. Two employees that had been
running the slot machines at the Food
Mart were arrested and charged with
commercial gambling, which is a felony.
Police say that this is nothing new and
that they had seen this type of illegal
slot machine gambling before, although
it does seem to have increased over the
past year.
