Governor
Warns Slot Machine Manufacturers
Governor
Bob Riley was in the news again
stressing the fact that slot machines
are illegal in the state of Alabama, and
that he is making sure that they are not
operational in his state. He first
announced his intention of cracking down
on all the illegal slot machines in the
state through the formation of a task
force that would examine all of the
locations to make sure that they would
not be running them.
The task force has already come back
with some preliminary reports of finding
illegal slot machines within the state,
and Riley says that it is up to the slot
machine companies to ensure that they
are not placing these devices in their
state. Riley sent out letters last week
to each of the major slot machine
companies warning them against using
them in their state. He said that they
would face criminal liability if they
are found operational within the
boundaries of Alabama.
He said that the companies would be
prosecuted if they were found to be
giving illegal slot machines to any
establishment in Alabama. They say that
the slot machines will most likely be
confiscated and either civil suits or
criminal charges will be filed. He said
that the courts will decide if it is a
legal bingo game or illegal slot machine
game.
They say that they are not looking to
put a bunch of people in jail for
illegal slot machines; they are just
looking to clean up their state. They
want to protect their residents from
illegal slot machine gambling, and this
is the only way they know how to do
that.
