Machines and Heroin?
Anti slot
machine groups have often gone to great
lengths to scare voters into deciding
against bringing slot machines in, but
even now they have to admit that they
may have crossed a line. Richard Young,
President of Casino Free Mass is now
comparing slot machines to heroin use –
which seems just ridiculous. Many in the
slot machine industry say that they are
used to these types of scare tactics,
and they say that quite often they work.
Young says that slot machines are not
scrutinized the way other products are,
and that they urge legislators to reject
slot machines and gambling. He says that
the “debate should be all about
predatory gambling” and compared it to
the subprime lending fiasco.
They claim that the design of the slot
machine makes it tough for people not to
play them, and that with the new
leadership that is in office they may
feel the need to follow other’s leads –
but they urge them not to. They say that
slot machines are not safe and that
nothing good can come of them.
Young told those that were for the slot
machines that they should be ashamed of
themselves for even considering them. He
says that they will not bring in the
money that they had hoped for and that
all they will do is make matters worse
in the long run for the state when they
have to set up all the plans to help
those who have developed slot machine
addictions.
