Mohegan Sun Losing Money
As the
problems with the economy get worse,
casinos across the land are seeing real
decreases in the amount of revenue that
they are able to bring in. There was a
time when the casino community thought
that they were somewhat invincible
because they could see all of the other
industries fighting to get by while
people were still flocking to their slot
machines. However, those days are now
over.
According to recent reports, the Mohegan
Sun has seen an 8.7% decrease in their
slot machine revenues for the month of
January. This is based on numbers
comparing it to same time last year.
This is the casino’s poorest showing
yet. The casino says that they brought
in $62.4 million from their slot
machines, and they gave $15.6 million to
the state.
They say that there are several factors
that could lead to the decrease in slot
machine revenue. They say that the
economy is certainly one of them, but
with the bad weather they were hit with
this year, that could account for some
of the disparity as well. They say that
it could have been infinitely worse than
what it was.
In December the slot machines brought in
4.3% less and in November they had
brought in 5.3% less, while in October
it was 9.1% less. They say that each
month it varies as to how much they
lose, but some months are definitely
higher losses than others. Overall they
feel like it was actually better than it
could have been or them.
