Atlantic City
Sees Another Drop in Revenue
The
slot machines in Atlantic City, NJ
are never going to be the same. The
amount of revenue that the slot machines
used to bring in was great while it
lasted, but with so much competition out
there now there is no way that it could
have lasted forever. The problem is that
when
Atlantic City
was the only state offering slot
machines on the East Coast they brought
in a lot of money.
That
all changed as the surrounding states
started bringing in slot machines as
well, and the city slowly saw their
revenue get less and less as it now had
to be split among several different
states. Then compile that with the fact
that we are currently in our worst
recession since the Great Depression and
you are doomed to start losing money.
Well,
the slot machines have not been
performing as they would have hoped, and
they have seen their numbers continue to
drop over the past couple of years.
However, at some point you would hope
that they would start to climb again. It
appears that this time has not yet come.
Instead, the slot machines were down
8.5% from a year ago – which equates to
$294.2 million. The slot machines are
steadily dropping, although not as bad
at table games. The slot machines
dropped 7.6% overall and the table games
dropped 10.1%.
This
was a huge shock to the casinos needless
to say as they felt that the slot
machines were now had by pretty much
everyone – but the table games were the
one thing that they had to offer that
the other casinos didn’t.
