Slot Machines
are Celebrating 10th
Anniversary
The
Ottawa Rideau Carleton is excited to
announce that their slot machines are
celebrating ten years of being up and
running. They say that as of February 18th,
the slot machines will have been running
for ten years as they first started in
2000. The slot machines started off very
well back then with a lot of people
wanting to try them out and play them,
and in the interim they have seen
millions of dollars come into the
country from them.
Back
then there were a lot of people who
didn’t want to see the slot machines
legalized, and even today there are
those that maintain that the amount of
money that they bring in is not worth
the cost of offering them. Some say that
the slot machines might bring in more
money for the track and the community,
but that they ultimately harm the
community by offering slot machines to
their citizens.
The
corporation that runs the slot machines
could not be happier with their
performance. They say that they have
spent ten years offering slot machines
to their patrons and that they are the
reason that they are still in business.
They said that on their opening day so
many people showed up to play the slot
machines that they had to stop letting
people in. They said that since the
raceway opened in 1962 they had not seen
these kinds of crowds.
The
slot machines have seen more than 15
million people come in to play them, and
they have brought in more than $140
million according to the Ontario Lottery
and Gaming Corporation. They said that
about three million dollars of the slot
machine revenue went directly into the
City of
Ottawa
which helped them pay for things that
they would not have been able to afford
otherwise.
