Fighting Over Greenetrack
The
battle continues in Alabama over whether or
not the electronic bingo games in the
state are legal or not. Although most
residents admit they don’t care one way
or the other about the slot machines and
bingo games – there are some who feel
very strongly about it. Most residents
say that they are just sick of their
government officials talking about and
fighting over it.
The
Governor, Bob Riley, has seen the courts
rule in his favor and decide that the
bingo games are in fact, slot machines,
and should be removed from the state.
The courts said that the bingo games are
pen and paper approved games, not slot
machines. The bingo halls are fighting
this as they say that the paper bingo is
completely different from the electronic
games and doesn’t bring in nearly as
much money. They also say that the bingo
machines are not slot machines so they
are legal. Well, the governor and the
courts disagree and they ordered
Greenetrack to close its doors.
Then
State Senator Bobby Singleton said that
they would thwart any attempt by the
governor to seize the slot machines and
said that the Greenetrack’s owners had
the right to deputize men to stop them
from coming onto their property and
seizing the machines. He said it was
their right to stop the raid.
But
the Commander of the Task Force that the
governor brought in for this said that
all bingo operations that had the slot
machines had to stop using them and that
Greenetrack needed to shut down the slot
machines or they needed to shut down.
