Who Will Be
Next?
With
so many states bringing in slot
machines, it is tough to know who has
legalized them and who hasn’t. And for
those that haven’t yet legalized slot
machines, how many of them are really
close to getting them? More and more
states are considering bringing them in
as they see that the existing states
that have them are making pretty good
money from them.
But
there are other considerations when
bringing in slot machines. There is the
fact that because there are so many
other states who have already brought in
slot machines that those states that are
bringing them in now cannot hope to make
as much money off of them. They cannot
compare their numbers to the existing
market, or even to states like
Nevada and New Jersey who had slot machines before
anyone else did.
In
these cases they had a lot less
competition, which meant that they had a
lot more people coming in to get them.
But with so many other places bringing
in slot machines, those numbers get
divided up into smaller and smaller
pieces until there is very little left
to choose from. There is also the idea
that you should never base your bottom
line on something that is so easily
changed.
You
have a bunch of states out there that
are planning on meeting their budgets
based on the amount of slot machine
revenue that comes in. This would be
like us expecting to be able to pay our
bills based on what we made at the track
that weekend. Just ask NJ, they probably
based their budget forecasts on their
slot machine revenue – only to find
themselves cutting programs drastically
as everyone else brought them in too.
