Governor Wants Slot Machines to Start Doing Better

The governor of New Jersey is tired of their slot machines and table games not making the kind of money that they used to. He is not alone. There are many within the state that are less than pleased with the way that the slot machines have been performing within their state. Governor Chris Christie says that he is ready to see them start doing better and he has tasked a new panel to find out what they can do to make the slot machines perform better.

A new commission has been formed and their job is to explore potential solutions to the problem of diminishing slot machine revenue, and they are to report back to him on June 30th. They are going to look at how they might be able to bring in people to their slot machines, how they can revive Atlantic City’s economy, whether they should expand slot machines throughout the state and to their racetracks, whether they should close some of their tracks altogether, and what they should do about the Meadowlands’ Xanadu project.

They are going to be checking in with the horse racing industry, the casinos, etc. to get input and they are going to make a report to the governor when they have finished. The state has been accused of allowing the slot machine issue to “stagnate” and Christie is now showing them all that he is on top of the problem. He said that he is going to do what it takes to turn around their gambling issues.

The horse racing industry has said that they are not in favor of closing their tracks, but that they are in favor of bringing slot machines to the tracks in an effort to bring in more money for the state and to bring in more money for the tracks.
