O’Malley Says
No More Gambling Debates
There
are those within the gambling community
of
Maryland
that would like to see table games join
their slot machines. There are a couple
of problems with that idea. Firstly, the
state has not been able to get their
slot machines up and running yet, so how
can they think about bringing in table
games? And secondly, their governor
doesn’t want to hear anything about it!
Governor Martin O’Malley has said that
he is not interested in talking about
table games. He said that the state had
a really hard time getting slot machines
approved, and that he was not looking to
step into that ring again. He said that
he would rather get the slot machines up
and running and then worry about whether
or not they were going to expand
gambling to table games.
He
said that when they do decide to move
that direction, they would need to find
out what their residents thought about
that kind of a move. He felt that many
of them were happy with slot machines
being the end of it, but that it would
need to be tabled until a later date. He
understands the fact that with
New Jersey
and now
Pennsylvania
offering table games it would make them
more competitive but he is not willing
to walk down that road.
Many
residents have already said that they
are not in favor of table games joining
their slot machines. They say that if
any kind of expansion is going to take
place it has to wait until they can see
the effect that the slot machines have
had on them.
