PA Property
Taxes
There
are people within the state of
Pennsylvania
that are not happy with the slot
machines that have been brought in. They
say that the only reason they voted to
allow slot machines was because they
were led to believe that they would see
a big difference in their property taxes
and so far this is not the case. They
say that somewhere along the line
something is not happening the way that
it should because they are just not
seeing a big difference.
They
are not the only ones who are wondering
what is going on. The state’s Auditor
General Jack Wagner is also wondering
where the slot machine money is going.
Wagner is running for governor this
year, so it is definitely in his best
interest to make it look like the
current governor is not doing his job
when it comes to slot machine revenues.
Wagner
says that there is a new report that
shows that the slot machine money is not
going where it was supposed to go.
Wagner said that there are many eligible
PA taxpayers who haven’t gotten any
property tax relief that they are due to
get. He said that the application
process is too difficult and confusing
for many people and that this is keeping
them from getting their share.
He
also said that the state is reporting
that $442 million has gone toward
property tax relief according to the PA
Gaming Control Board. However, Wagner
says that this is not true and that less
money than that is actually being used
for what it is supposed to be. The
state’s slot machine law says that 34%
of all gross terminal revenue is
supposed to go into the fund. That means
that out of all of the money that the
slot machines have left in them after
they have paid out their winners, 34%
was to go to the state’s residents, but
it just isn’t happening.
