Tyson Helping
Crack Down on Illegal Slot Machines
John
Tyson, Jr. is the head of
Alabama’s Anti
Gambling Task Force, and he is not
afraid to speak his mind. He has a very
clear idea of what constitutes a slot
machine, what is legal in the state, and
what he is cracking down on. Many wonder
where he stands on the whole slot
machine idea and he is more than willing
to tell you.
Appearing on a radio station the other
day, Tyson said that illegal slot
machines have to go. He said that the
state has said that bingo is legal as
long as it is with pen and paper and
that electronic bingo is not. The courts
have ruled that the state’s constitution
has clearly stated that slot machines
are not legal in the state of
Alabama, and
that electronic bingo machines are the
same thing as slot machines.
He
has been all over the state lately in an
attempt to get illegal slot machine
parlors closed down, and he said that he
has no problem doing his job. He said
that the issue at hand is illegal slot
machine gambling, and that this is all
his job is – to get rid of illegal slot
machines as this is what he has been
tasked to do.
He
said that many people seem to think that
his job is to decide whether or not they
should gamble and this is not his job.
His only job is to find out where they
are running illegal slot machines and to
shut them down. That is all he does. He
said that illegal slot machines are
untaxed and unregulated, and that is not
safe for the people playing them, and it
means that they don’t have to share
their winnings with the state like legal
ones would have to do. He was asked
about a contribution he received from
Milton McGregor, the owner of the now
closed Victory Land.
Tyson said that it was for his campaign
for attorney general and that he would
still go after the illegal slot machines
that they had if they reopened their
doors.
