So Much for
the Battle
It
would appear that former Governor Bob
Riley has finally been vindicated and
that he is triumphant over the slot
machine industry in the state of Alabama. Current governor Robert Bentley has
seen to it that the matter of the slot
machines was handled fairly and they are
in the process of having all of the slot
machines removed from the state.
According to Deputy Attorney General
Sonny Reagan, the manufacturers were
offered a deal that they just could not
refuse.
The
state told the slot machine
manufacturers in no uncertain terms that
the electronic bingo machines were
illegal in the state as they came under
the heading of illegal slot machines. So
they gave them sixty days to remove
their slot machines from the state and
after that they would be confiscating
them. They had already taken slot
machines from GreeneTrack and although
Victoryland owner Milton McGregor had
shut down his machines in an attempt to
keep them, the manufacturers of those
slot machines will be coming to take
them back.
They
said that they would have liked to have
seen the written agreement that the
state and the slot machine companies
came to, and that they wanted to see
them go to court to settle it once and
for all. They said that the Native
Americans are the only ones running
these slot machines now, and that they
are the same kind that they are
insisting be removed from other
locations. The AG said that they are
working to remove those same slot
machines from the tribal land as well.
