Council Has No Opinion on Slot Machines
The
Langley Arts Council sent out an email
telling people that Playtime Community
Gaming was trying to change from a bingo
hall to a slot machine gaming center,
but has not given an opinion on the
matter. The soon to be slot machine
casino applied for the change under
their new name of Playtime – with their
old name being Langley Bingo Palace.
They want to change from being a bingo
hall to a gaming center that would offer
electronic games and up to 125 slot
machines.
Many who read the email felt that the
Council was supporting the slot machine
change, so the council stepped forward
and let everyone know that they were
simply telling people about the
application, but that they did not
support slot machines one way or the
other. They just thought that the
artistic community had a right to know
that this was happening.
The Council also said that they have not
discussed whether or not they will
support the slot machines yet, so at
this time they are remaining neutral.
They are aware however, that since there
has been such an increase in slot
machine halls, this could have a
negative impact on the community. A
portion of the slot machine revenue
would go to the provincial government
which would distribute a portion of it
to non-profits.
