Slot Machine Ban Fails

The group No Slots for ME! has been trying to make slot machines illegal, but has not been having much luck. The group was trying to get a petition to put a referendum on the ballot for making slot machines illegal. They needed to get enough signatures by Thursday, but will not be able to make the deadline.

The group has been fighting to have slot machines made illegal for many years. They want to stop any further slot machines from being made legal in the state, and they want the ones at Hollywood Slots in Bangor to be removed. Hollywood Slots is the only legal slot machine parlor in Maine at this time.

They did not however make the number of signatures to get the slot machine referendum on the ballot this November, but are confident that they will be able to get it on the ballot for November 2008. The Secretary of State felt that they might be able to accomplish that.

There are several referendums on the ballot this November that have been submitted by those opposed and those for slot machines. This would have been one more for voters to chew on.
