BIA Thinks Kenosha Slot Machines Good
Idea
The
Menominee Tribe would like to build an
$808 million slot machine casino and
they have just gotten the Bureau of
Indian Affairs’ Midwest Regional
Office’s approval. They recommended that
the slot machine casino be granted
federal approval and now it is on to the
next step in the process.
The tribe wants to build the slot
machine casino at the Dairyland
Greyhound Park, and the BIA’s approval
will help in that process. The slot
machine proposal will now go to the BIA
in Washington D.C. for further review.
They will look over the documents and
decide if the off-reservation slot
machine casino can go ahead or not. Once
they give their approval, it will be the
federal government’s decision, but they
must still get approval from Governor
Jim Doyle.
Monominee tribal chair Karen
Washinawatok said that the tribe is very
happy about the BIA’s approval of the
slot machine casino. She said that their
slot machine casino application seems to
be progressing nicely through the proper
channels, as it will bring excellent
“economic opportunity to [their] tribe
and the Kenosha community.” She said
that they are aware that they must
continue to be patient as it is a long
process, but they are confident that it
will turn out well.
The casino would have more than 3,000
slot machines, 75 table games, a
racetrack, a hotel, several restaurants,
as well as an entertainment center.
