Carver Looking for Slot Machine Traffic
Solution
Thomas D. Carver, the Executive Director
of the Casino Reinvestment development
Authority (CRDA), is looking for ways to
increase traffic to the slot machines,
while looking for ways to decrease
traffic problems. Atlantic City, NJ is
the place on the East Coast to play the
slot machines, but as more and more
people are discovering, it is also the
place to sit in traffic for hours to
play one of those slot machines.
Carver knows that if they don’t correct
the traffic problem they will lose slot
machine revenue as people will go to
other states to play the machines. They
no longer have to wait in line to play
them in NJ, they can go to PA, NY,
Delaware, etc. – slot machines are all
around them now. There have been great
suggestions on how to get the slot
machine players here – a light rail
system, more busses, a train, Garden
State Parkway interchanges to bring
traffic down less used roads, parking
and shuttles, cable cars that would run
overhead, etc. – the list goes on and
on. The problem is that nothing is being
done about it.
The NJ Department of Transportation is
working with other transportation
agencies within the state to try and get
the slot machine players to their
destination a little quicker, as they
need a solution that will last them the
next 25 years or more. Some of the slot
machine casinos are not concerned, they
say that parking is more trouble than
driving, but many others know that they
will begin losing slot machine revenue
to surrounding states the worse the
traffic gets. Weekends and holidays over
the summer are the worst for you have
the traffic coming for the slot
machines, and the traffic coming for the
beaches, all down the same roads. NJ
needs to come up with a solution fast,
for as far as some people are concerned,
a slot machine in AC is just the same as
a slot machine in Philly.
