Franchot Determinedly Against Slot
Machines
Peter
Franchot is now Maryland’s 33rd
comptroller, and he is as anti slot
machine as you can get. Between Franchot
and Governor O’Malley, slot machine
proponents are afraid they will never
see them legalized. He is planning on
continuing his opposition of slot
machines while in office.
Franchot feels that it is not in the
best interests of Maryland’s taxpayers
to legalize the slot machines. He was
very much against ex-Governor Ehrlich’s
attempts to legalize the slot machines.
He says that he is fully aware of the
deficit that Maryland faces in their
budget, but that he is fundamentally
opposed to slot machines. He thinks that
going over the tax code and working to
fix the “structural deficit” is in their
best interest, and that going down the
road of slot machine again is just a
mistake.
He says that he is planning on
supporting those opposed to slot
machines, which makes many who would
like to see the machines legalized not
very happy. They say that he will use
his position as comptroller to speak out
against the slot machines, saying how
they are not economically in the state’s
best interest. They feel that he is
using his position to an unfair
advantage, and that it will make it even
harder for them to convince others that
slot machines are exactly what the state
needs.
