Is Slot Machine Addiction a Health
Crisis?
The
British Medical Association has
officially classified slot machine
gambling as a “health crisis” and many
are not encouraged by the phrasing. The
BMA said that the fact remains that slot
machine addiction is a real crisis and
they found that the National Health
Service is not giving it the attention
they feel it deserves. They want “urgent
action” to combat the slot machine
addiction.
The problem isn’t so much the fact that
they want to help those with a slot
machine addiction, it is the fact that
in order to help them the public has to
fund it – which they don’t want to do.
They want taxpayers to fund national
slot machine addiction preventative
programs as well as counseling programs
for those similarly addicted.
Those that would end up footing the bill
for these slot machine addiction
counseling and preventative programs are
not interested in funding them. They say
that their taxes are high enough, and
that the government is going to have to
figure something else out – maybe even
remove the slot machines from the
country if need be. They say that they
are not willing to fund a program that
probably won’t work, as has been seen
before. They say that as with any
addict, the slot machine addict is going
to want to have to change – which
usually means hitting rock bottom first.
They say that until operations are no
longer being postponed and primary care
trusts are hiring the proper amount of
staff, only then will they consider
taking care of those with a slot machine
gambling problem. They think they got
themselves into this mess; they can get
themselves out of it.
