Kansas City Slot Machines Still Going,
and Going…
People said that the riverboat slot
machines would never make it to $600
million, and if they did, they wouldn’t
survive there. They were wrong on both
counts because not only did their slot
machine riverboats bring in $714.6
million last year; they are expected to
surpass that number this year.
They chalk it up to all the things that
they have to offer besides the slot
machines and gaming. They say that they
are bringing in entertainment venues and
other options for people, so that when
they are done playing the slot machines
they won’t leave, they will stay for a
show, or something else that catches
their eye, and then perhaps, they will
play some more slot machines. They say
it is all in the packaging.
For the 12th year in a row, the slot
machine and gambling revenue in Kansas
City has continued to beat the year
before in revenue. They found that their
slot machine riverboat revenue was up
3.7% from the year before. The revenue
at all eleven slot machine casinos in
Missouri were up 3.8% - which means
$1.58 billion in pretax gross revenue.
The majority of the slot machine revenue
goes to public education – which means
really, everybody wins.
However, with all of this growth in slot
machine and gambling revenue, there has
to be someone paying for it, and it
seems that Missouri showed more than
11,000 people as addicts. More than
1,500 last year alone voluntarily banned
themselves from the slot machines
because they just couldn’t stop
gambling.
