Ladbrokes Joins Slot Machine Company
Since
the Spanish slot machine market is
currently valued at around €29bn is
would only make sense that companies
would start to attempt to infiltrate it
from the outside. Ladbrokes is one of
those companies – they have joined
forces with Cirsa Slot Corporation SL,
which is a division of Circa
Corporation. They are planning on
starting a sports betting business in
Spain, and they are going to draw on
their knowledge of slot machines and
other types of betting to do it.
Cirsa currently owns about 9% of the
Spanish slot machine market, so they are
already established as a player in the
field. They have slot machine casinos,
arcades, bingo halls, etc. all
throughout Spain – and now are looking
to do something else that is still
related.
They are going to start applying for the
betting licenses that they have to have
in Madrid, as a law was passed last
month that said any sort of slot
machines, betting shops, etc. need to
have a license to operate. They are also
looking at other areas of Spain that
might not currently have slot machines.
Ladbrokes is pleased by the venture as
they had been trying to move forward
internationally and were having problems
doing so. With this pairing of them with
the slot machine company, they have the
perfect in to a country that Cirsa has
already established themselves in.
Ladbrokes brings in the knowledge of
betting, and Cirsa brings in slot
machine experience with betting as well
as knowledge of the culture of the
country.
Because sports’ betting has become so
popular in Spain, this is the right time
for the two companies to act on it. They
are not the first to enter into this;
William Hill recently sidled up to
Codere – a Spanish company that operates
more than 30,000 slot machines across
Spain.
