Liquor Licenses Linked to Slot Machines
The
License Commission has to decide what to
do with two licenses that have been
linked to illegal slot machines. They
are having a meeting in City Hall to
decide whether to revoke those licenses,
since they are linked to illegal slot
machine gambling and are therefore
probably not renewable.
Spud’s convenience store, at 420 South
Street; and the Sandcastle Lounge at
2213 Northampton Street, have both been
linked to illegal slot machines. The
state police raided both establishments
and found that there were illegally
rigged electronic slot machines at each
establishment. The Sandcastle Lounge has
an arraignment this Thursday with the
owner Daniel A. Knapp – one of the
owners of the bar accused of having the
illegal slot machines. Knapp’s
grandfather was already arraigned for
the illegal slot machines and will stand
trial in April.
According to documentation, the elder
Knapp controlled the access to the slot
machines that were located next door to
the store in a house that the younger
Knapp owned. The licenses were renewed
last month, but the Chairman of the
License Commission said that they needed
to take a closer look at the license and
how it pertained to the illegal slot
machine gambling in question. The police
have been asked to appear at the hearing
as well to discuss the slot machine
investigation.
