Millennium Pushing for Slot Machines
It
isn’t just enough anymore for the
governor to decide whether or not slot
machines might be good for his or her
state, they have to answer to everyone
else who thinks they have a stake in it
as well. One of those companies would be
Millennium Gaming, who is putting some
serious money into the state to try and
get slot machines legalized.
The governor has already said that he
has lots of plans for the budget money,
and that he has increased several areas.
But where is the money going to come
from if it doesn’t come from slot
machines? Cut spending? Cut government
salaries? No, the automatic answer these
days is to bring in the slot machines
and with the state’s revenue being off
$6 million this past year, who knows
what the difference will be this year.
Millennium Gaming is working with
Rockingham Park in Salem to try and
bring in slot machines at the racetrack,
and is using prominent political
activists to get their voice heard. The
governor has said he will listen to the
slot machine proponents, but has not
agreed to legalize them. However, he is
claiming it is about “quality of life”
and no one knows how he defines that.
Some are concerned that the big
companies who want to see the slot
machines legalized will show him that
“quality of life” has to do with how
much money you make – and that is a very
sad idea. Especially since for some,
their quality of life will be impacted
by having a slot machine in their back
yard that they might become addicted to.
