Macau’s Slot Machines Predicted to Outdo
Vegas
With
Macau’s recent growth in slot machines
and casinos, one can only wonder how it
will compete with the other slot machine
Mecca – Las Vegas. Experts predict that
since Macau only brought in slightly
less slot machine revenue this year than
Vegas did, it can only be assumed that
at some point Macau will surpass the
revenue that Vegas’ slot machines bring
in.
Macau really only looks like a big
construction site at the moment as slot
machine casinos grow like weeds. The
territory – the only place in China that
slot machines and gambling are legal –
believes that they can dominate the
market. They think that they will be
able to surpass Vegas in both visitors
and in slot machine revenue, because
they are now adding many more hotels.
Initially it was thought that although
they might surpass Vegas in terms of
slot machine revenue, there was no way
they would bring in more money overall
because Vegas had so many hotels.
However, that is now changing.
Last year more than 100,000 Americans
came to Macau to play the slot machines,
coming over from Hong Kong. The Sands
has a casino, which they claim is the
world’s largest – and it has almost
1,300 slot machines and 740 tables. They
are not a hotel, but do offer some
suites for their high rollers. They are
in the process of building a hotel on
the Cotai Strip however. The strip will
have many hotel rooms, as Macau tries to
make itself into more than just a day
trip.
