Slot
Machines and Racing Go Hand in Hand
The
legislature is saying that they find it
necessary to legalize slot machines so
that they can keep horse racing alive.
Horse racing opponents are saying that
the sport is an archaic one which you
can see by the revenues that they bring
in – and it should be left to die. Slot
machine opponents say that the horse
races dying theme is just an excuse for
people to bring slot machines into the
state. Slot machine and horse racing
enthusiasts say that they should support
the tracks any way they can – hence
legalizing slot machines.
So who is right? It depends on your
point of view. Although many seem to be
of the mindset that it really does seem
as though that want to get the slot
machines legalized will stop at nothing
to do so. The fact that they are so
eager to lump horse racing and slot
machines together, simply means that one
is a means to the other. Granted, both
are types of gambling, but not even
close in relation to each other.
There is a commonality within the slot
machine and horse racing industries in
that people like to bet on something and
they like to win. But that is really as
far as the similarities go. Many believe
that the horse racing is just a cover
for the slot machines, and once they
have them legalized they will phase out
the horse racing, and all you will be
left with are slot machines – which will
then lead to casinos, and they don’t
want that.
However, unless someone comes up with a
better idea, the best way currently to
save the horse and dog tracks is to
bring in slot machines. They are only
saving the venue of course, because it
isn’t like the slot machines are going
to get more people playing the ponies,
it just gets them to come play the
machines and the machines pay for the
ponies.
