Machine Opponent Chooses House Over
Patrick
Much to
many surprised legislators, Rep. Daniel
Bosley has chosen to stay in the House
and not take the role offered him by
Governor Deval Patrick. Patrick had
asked Bosley to become his economic
development adviser, and many thought he
was going to take the position. This
surprised those who thought that Patrick
was going to consider legalizing slot
machines – as Bosley is steadfastly
against them. Bosley had said that he
would council Patrick against legalizing
slot machines and thus worried many that
thought this might be their year.
However, Bosley has decided to stay in
his current job, mainly because he feels
he would have more control over public
policy development and the slot machines
in the House than out of it. He is the
House chairman of the Joint Committee on
Economic Development and Emerging
Technologies, which of course gives him
more power over the legalization of slot
machines or not. Patrick had said that
he would consider legalizing the slot
machines, so perhaps Bosley thought it
would be better to head him off than
work with him.
Either way, as Bosley had been holding
off on submitting his resignation in the
House, many had thought that he might be
changing his mind about the move. The
governor released a statement that said
he and Bosley had decided that it was
best for Bosley to remain where he was.
However, before Bosley had announced
that he would not be resigning, Patrick
announced those who would be in his
Development Cabinet and Bosley was not
mentioned.
