TouchPlay
Slot Machines Still an Issue
Iowa used to have TouchPlay lotto slot
machines, but people complained that
they seemed too much like Vegas slot
machines and they wanted them gone. So
Iowa decided they were right and
eliminated all of the slot machines. The
problem is that they had already told
the state that they could have the slot
machines, so people went out and bought
them and created businesses around them.
Now all of those people are very angry,
and they are suing the legislature to
compensate them or legalize the slot
machines again. The Governor-elect has
already said that he is not planning on
legalizing the slot machines, which
leaves them with a compensation issue.
However, some say that there has been
talk amongst the Republicans of bringing
back the slot machines. The Democrats
think this is absurd for not only do
they control both the House and the
Senate now, but they are dead set
against legalizing the slot machines
again.
At one point there were more than 6,000
slot machines operating in the state,
and once the ban was introduced next
thing owners knew it had passed. People
say it is absurd for a state to take a
step forward by bringing in slot
machines and then take a step back and
make them illegal. Because of this, many
think it is possible that they may be
legalized. There is also the issue of
all of the slot machine lawsuits that
people are now facing as well.
The legislature really does seem to be
holding the majority against
legalization of slot machines, so it
does not seem imminent that they might
be legalized, but many feel there is
always a chance.
