Alabama Allows Slot Machines - Well,
Sometimes
Alabama
is one of those strange states that
allows slot machines and gambling, but
only in some parts of the state. Instead
of there being a law that simply says
that slot machines are either legal or
illegal, you are somewhat left to figure
it out on your own depending on where
you are standing at the moment.
Oh, and
to be very clear, these are not regular
slot machines, they are bingo machines,
but that is part of the controversy as
well as many of the bingo machines look
just like slot machines. However, that
is the least of your troubles if you are
the Porch Creek Indian reservation as
they are the ones putting in the slot
machines, er, bingo machines only they
aren’t allowed either.
As of
January 6th the casino will open their
doors to 1,600 bingo rigged slot
machines. They say that they have
already stimulated the economy where
they are as they had to hire contractors
to help them, and they are bringing in
more jobs to the local economy. They
will be filling at least half of the
jobs at the resort with non tribal
members which is good for the town as
well.
However,
Governor Bill Riley doesn’t want them in
there, but doesn’t really have a say in
it. He says that with Indian gaming
controlled by the Federal Government and
the Indian gaming Regulatory Commission
he doesn’t have a leg to stand on, that
the government will be the ones making
that decision.
