Birmingham Wants Slot Machines
Governor
Bob Riley of the state of Alabama is
determined to get the illegal slot
machines out of his state. He says that
there are tons of illegal slot machines
running in the state right now, and he
wants them closed down. He has started a
new task force to crack down on the slot
machines starting immediately.
He says that many of the so called
electronic bingo machines that are
running in the state are actually
illegal slot machines, and they are
passing them off as something that they
aren’t. Riley has also made it very
clear that he is going to oppose any
attempts by anyone within the state to
expand gambling in any way.
Well, this doesn’t sit well with
Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford as he is
in the process of trying to get those
slot machine type devices in his city.
He says that there is abut $20 million
to be made off of them and he wants them
for his city. He says that the revenue
from the bingo parlors could do a lot to
help out the city financially.
It would seem that Riley and Langford
have drastically opposing views on the
process. Riley says that electronic
bingo games are simply slot machines in
disguise and should be illegal because
slot machines are illegal in the state.
However, Langford maintains that it
doesn’t matter what form it comes in –
or whether or not it looks like a slot
machines – it is bingo and bingo is
legal.
