Country
Crossing May Have to Move
It would
seem that Texas is about to lose Country
Crossing to its neighbor – the more slot
machine and gambling friendly
Mississippi. Ronnie Gilley owns the
establishment, but his investors are
nervous about a new law that has been
passed by Governor Bob Riley creating a
recent anti-gambling task force.
His investors think that they would be
better suited over the state line, while
Gilley wants to stay in Houston County.
Due to the recent increase in bingo
halls that are using slot machine type
games, the governor has decided to start
cracking down on the establishments that
offer the games. It is illegal to run
slot machines in Texas, and although
some have tried to make them legal they
have not been successful yet.
The problem is that some don’t think
that the bingo games are legal. They say
that electronic bingo and paper bingo
are two different things, and if they
are bringing in the electronic kind them
they are bringing in slot machines. The
owners of said machines say that they
are not slot machines and that they are
legal under the law as the law allows
for bingo to be played.
Electronic bingo is not the same as slot
machines though. Bingo machines let the
players compete against each other,
while slot machines let them compete
against the house for larger wins. Some
investors went ahead and pulled their
support from the bingo hall all together
after hearing the announcement, but the
initial investors have not changed their
tune.
