Industry Gets a Boost
According
to Andy Burnham, Culture Secretary for
the UK, the gaming industry was in need
of a boost so they got one. Gamblers
will now be able to win more money at
the slot machines when they play. The
gaming industry lobbied the government
to try and get an increase in the amount
of money that could be won, and was
finally successful.
Now when you go to the pubs, clubs or
amusement arcades you will be able to
play the slot machines and win a more
significant amount of money. They have
increased the payouts on the slot
machines from £35 to £70. They have also
increased the maximum stakes from 50p to
£1 which will enable larger jackpots to
be played out. This betting and winning
more on the slot machines was very much
appreciated by their players.
Players have long wanted to be able to
bet higher amounts as they knew that
with that would come bigger payouts.
This is the second rise that the slot
machines have gotten in two years and
will give a much needed boost to their
economy. They believe that they will end
up with an extra 20% in revenue for
their country from the increase.
The Treasury says that from the VAT
alone they could be looking at another
£27 million a year. Of course, not
everyone is thrilled with the increase.
There are those that say that the slot
machines are already causing addiction
and that by increasing payouts they are
going to increase the number of people
addicted to slot machines as well.
