Plainridge Not Done Fighting
Plainridge Racecourse has tried before
to get the Massachusetts Legislature to
legalize slot machines at their track.
However, they have never been successful
in this request. There have always been
too many people against the slot
machines at the track, but for some
reason they think that this time they
might get approved.
The race course says that there is no
reason why slot machines should not be
legal at the state’s tracks. Gary
Piontkowski maintains that the state
would see hundreds of millions of
dollars from the slot machines, and
considering that the state is in dire
need of additional funding, they would
be crazy not to consider it.
Piontkowski has scheduled a meeting at
the track to discuss the slot machine
options and would like local legislators
to come. He also invited the public so
that they could have a say in it as
well. He thinks the public is going to
be more supportive of slot machines than
the state gives them credit for.
Some of their legislators have already
said that they would support a slot
machine bill as they can see the
necessity of adding them. However,
according to Piontkowski, the House
would be against them, and they have
ruled on the slot machines before and
not allowed them to come in. Piontkowski
says that he is not alone in this fight,
and just wants to give the state a
fighting chance.
He says that he will wait and see what
happens at the meeting before deciding
where to go from here with the slot
machine issue.
