Police
Back Slot Machines
There is
a curiously strange paring in New
Hampshire these days – the police union
and those who support slot machines. The
New Hampshire Police Association has
endorsed the expansion of slot machines
within the state for the very first time
in their history. They have always been
opposed to slot machines as they say
that they bring crime and addiction to
the state, but now they say that they
see the reasoning behind it.
They say that the people of New
Hampshire are going to play the slot
machines whether they are legal in their
state or not. They know that they simply
go over to the Foxwoods Casino or the
Mohegan Sun Casino and play the slot
machines there. They say that the only
difference is that Connecticut is
getting the money instead of them.
They say that they know that slot
machines bring in millions of dollars
each month for the state, and with the
economy the way it is, the state of New
Hampshire could use the additional
income that could come from them. The
group says that the influx of revenue
from the slot machines could help the
state’s retirement system which is
having many problems these days.
However, even if the slot machines are
approved, the retirement system in the
state is not going to see any of the
money that will come from them. Former
State Senator Jim Rubens who is now the
Chairman of the Coalition Against
Expanded Gambling says that he wants to
know what the police are talking about,
and why the sudden change in status.
