Slot Machines are Positive Influence on Area

The Saganing Eagles Landing Casino near Standish has been open for a little more than a year now and those that live near it say that it has been good for their community. They say that the influence it has had on the area both economically and socially has been good for the most part. They say that pretty much any time of day you can go in there and see people playing and that the area has really taken advantage of their new entertainment source.

The slot machines are constantly running, and those playing them say that they come just to have fun. They have more than 100,000 people signed up for the slot machine players club so far, and that is just in the first year. Those that are playing the slot machines say that they come for the fun of it – they don’t usually win much but they enjoy the excitement of it.

Curtis Hillman, Supervisor of Standish Township, says that there may only be about 2,000 residents, but that the community really enjoys the new slot machines. He said that they and the surrounding area have not seen this kind of economic activity since the jail was built almost twenty years ago. He says that the jail isn’t going to get any bigger, but that the casino will – which means there are going to be even more jobs coming in.

They say that they are not the largest employer yet, but they expect to be in due time. The average wage of a worker is $36,900 a year, with some making more, some making less. They say that the majority of the people live in the area, with more living in their county than others.
