California’s
Tribal Gaming Industry is Confusing
Either they have the business or they
don’t – which is what a lot of people
are wondering in the state of
California. The
tribes keep complaining that their
numbers are down and that they don’t
have the ability to keep up with the
amount of money that they were paying
the state. They say that they are in a
recession and that they have seen their
slot machine numbers drop drastically
and so they don’t think that they have
much of a chance of making nearly the
same amount of money that they used to.
They
also said that they don’t think that
they will see that kind of money for a
long time. But then in the next breath
they say that they need more slot
machines so that they can bring in more
money. The administration of the state
tried to block the request as they said
that adding more slot machines was not
what was needed. They argued that more
slot machines would lead to traffic
congestion and a spike in crime, and
they said that with the numbers down
they didn’t need them.
The
tribes took it to court and the
administration was shot down. So it
appears that they will be able to bring
in more slot machines. Experts say that
even if you bring in more slot machines
this does not mean that you are going to
bring in more money – something the
tribe does not seem to understand. If
people aren’t playing the slot machines
that you have now, what makes you think
that they are going to play them if you
bring in more of them?
It
remains to be seen as to how many more
slot machines will be allowed in, but
they will be bringing in more – which
many people seem to think will only
muddy the waters.
