Considering Table Games
With table games being the last thing
that Atlantic City had to hold on to
that the other states did not have, to
hear that Pennsylvania had agreed to
bring in table games with their slot
machines had to be a huge blow. They
know that this is another huge chunk of
their revenues out the window as people
will not travel to Atlantic City to play
the same games they can get in their own
back yard. But now Delaware has also
decided to enter the arena, and is
considering bringing in table games to
add to their slot machines as well.
The state has been considering them for
some time, and was not sure if it was
financially worth the addition, but it
would appear that lawmakers are much
surer that they are. There are bills
that have been filed now that clearly
spell out how the table games would
expand their gambling options from just
offering slot machines in the state. The
bills not only ask for approval of the
table games, but they also make note of
the creation of a commission to resolve
gambling disputes, decide how the money
will get divided between the state, the
horse racing industry and the casinos,
and the establishment of a new division
of state police. This division would
require the hiring of 40 new state
employees so between the addition of
these jobs and the ones that would have
to come from the expansion of gambling,
table games are looking like a very good
deal for the state.
Some are concerned that the slot
machines they have are considered by
some to be too much gambling already.
But lawmakers say that the slot machines
are great for bringing in revenues, but
they are also aware that if they don’t
have table games as well and their
surrounding states do – they have less
to offer as an enticement for players to
come see them.
