Deval Orders Economic Impact
Study
Governor Deval Patrick has asked for an
updated Economic Impact Study as it
pertains to the addition of slot
machines. He wants to know exactly how
slot machines would impact the state
both positively and negatively if they
should come in. There are those that
applaud the decision as they say that
the last one is too old to be relevant
or even useful – and those that say that
he is merely trying to delay the
implementation of the slot machines for
a little longer.
It is
true that this could be seen as a delay
tactic as Deval has never been a fan of
the slot machines – but it could also be
smart business. No one can really
disagree in that they need to know the
impact that slot machines would have on
the state before they allow them in. But
some think that Deval simply wants to
delay the debate that is coming in
reference to the slot machines when it
is an election year.
In
not discussing the slot machines in
terms of letting them in he is trying to
walk the fence and his supporters say
that he is simply being a conscientious
governor. But then there are those that
don’t particularly like Deval and they
have split into two categories – those
that don’t want the slot machines and
those that do. Those that want the slot
machines want Deval to take a position
for them and let them know that he will
be supporting them in his next term.
Those
that don’t want the slot machines say
that this is his way of moving forward
on something that they have made very
clear that they don’t want. The fact of
the matter is that Deval might walk the
line for some time, at least until the
election is over.
