Slot Machines Still Not Up and Running
Every
step closer to slot machine gambling is
an eternity in the making for the state
of Maryland. It seems as
though every time they start to get
close to actually having running slot
machines that something happens that
pulls them back again. More than a year
ago voters approved more than 15,000
slot machines to come into the state –
and not a single one is running.
Everyone in Maryland thought that
they would have slot machines to play by
now. But in each case they have had some
sort of hold up to the process. Not only
that, but they are looking at at least
nine more months before slot machines
are up and running at all. This puts
them about two years out from approval
for the actual playing of the slot
machines.
According to the Maryland Slots
Commission they have three casino bids,
but they are moving forward very slowly.
The slot machines in Ocean Downs are
going to be postponed indefinitely while
they deal with construction issues. Anne Arundel
County just got permission
to move forward after the zoning laws
were not passed. Cecil
County
is on track as of right now, but there
is no telling what could happen in the
future.
There
are missed deadlines and other problems
that just make the whole slot machine
debacle a complete mess and leaves
residents without their slot machines.
Government officials are going to need
to do something to gain back the
confidence put in them by their
residents, or they are going to revolt!
