Non Profits
Need Slot Machines
The
state of Maryland is still
fighting to get slot machines brought
in, but some want to know how it will
affect the little guys. By little guys
of course they mean the charities and
the non-profits who know that slot
machines bring in more money than
anything else in a casino and want to
get their share of the profits. They are
trying to get a bill passed that would
allow them to do just that.
It is
not as though they haven’t tried before
of course, and over the past two years
there have been similar bills that have
failed. This latest one would allow non
profit organizations like the American
Legion to bring in slot machines and
collect the winnings from them. They say
that the majority of money that comes
into places like this goes out to other
charities, so why not make it easier on
them to raise the funds.
They
said that the smaller clubs and the
larger ones like the American Legion
need slot machines to stay up and
running – especially if they are
allowing slot machines at other
locations. Those people who usually
frequent the American Legion and what
not will continue to do so if they offer
slot machines, but otherwise they might
be tempted to go elsewhere to have a
good tie.
Some
lawmakers think that the state as a rule
wants to see slot machines allowed for
these groups, and that they have not
gotten to get approval only because of
all of the other slot machine bills that
were going on. They think that now that
slot machines have been legalized in the
state that there is a good chance that
they might see theirs approved as well.
