Pennsylvania
Readying for Table Games
So it
is official – Pennsylvania is bringing
in table games in addition to their slot
machines. There are easily some very
happy and some very unhappy people, but
one thing is for sure and that is that
there will be a lot more revenue coming
into the state because of them. The slot
machines are already bringing in a ton
of money for those programs that would
not otherwise be funded – as well as
education, but adding in table games is
going to drastically increase their
funds.
It
can be assured that Atlantic City is none too
happy about this. While they were
offering slot machines and table games
to their clients, they knew that there
would be the draw of slot machines to
other states – especially PA. But they
knew that they still had those people
who liked the table games coming to
their door. Now they are sure to see a
drastic decrease in their gaming
revenues because of all the people who
won’t make that trip anymore.
The
slot machines might be the biggest draw
for the casinos in terms of money made
off of them, but table games definitely
sweeten the pot. With Governor Ed
Rendell signing that legislation this
week we are left wondering what will
happen to both states? Will
New Jersey
weather the storm and find another way
to bring in additional revenue so that
they can still compete – or will they
find themselves woefully underfunded and
have to start cutting their budget in
huge ways?
Critics of slot machines and gambling
say that this is what happens when you
count on gambling revenues to fund your
state. They say that if you leave
yourself open to not having enough money
because people aren’t gambling, then it
is really only your fault.
