Residents Want
to Know Bottom Line on Slot Machines
Some
residents in Massachusetts are tired
of waiting to see if they are going to
get slot machines or not. The issue has
been sitting on the table for some time
– and there are some that want it and
some that don’t. But no matter what side
you are on – residents want to know one
way or the other so they can be done
with it and move on. Those that want the
slot machines are obviously hoping it is
in their best interest – as is the other
side – but both say that they will be
relieved to just have an answer.
It
seems that every week there is another
move forward or backward so that nothing
gets accomplished. They are aware that
their Governor, Deval Patrick, is
walking the fine line between wanting
slot machines and not wanting them, and
they are also aware that he is walking
that line so that he can get himself
re-elected. Some say that they won’t
vote for him simply because he won’t
take a stance on them one way or the
other and they are tired of cat and
mouse.
Patrick says that if he is going to go
for the slot machines he wants to see
them in destination locations like
Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. He does not
want them scattered all over the state.
But many say that they want to see them
at the tracks because it will bring in
much needed revenue and will save jobs.
Most
residents say that they have been very
clear in that they don’t want gambling
in their state. They voted against dog
racing, and they don’t necessarily want
slot machines in their back yards.
Either way – they want a decision.
