Atlantic City Sees Revenue Drop Again
With
neighboring competition not giving them
a break, Atlantic City’s casinos have
seen yet another drop in revenue for the
month of June. Trump Marina has come in
last again this month, with Borgata
bringing in the most. As far as the year
before is concerned, many of them
brought in less than the year before
with Borgata, Caesars Palace, Harrah’s
Marina, and both Trump Taj Mahal and
Marina bringing in slightly more than
the year before.
The difference between this year and
last year is obviously the slot machines
that have now invaded Pennsylvania.
According to the Gaming Control Boards
of PA and NJ, the millions of dollars in
slot machine revenue that used to flow
into NJ are now flowing into both, with
some of the racetracks getting the lions
share.
The Borgata showed an increase of 4.7%
over last year, while Caesars showed an
increase of 22% over last year. Then you
have Trump’s Plaza that went down 13.9%
and the A.C. Hilton which went down
10.1%. Meanwhile, Harrah’s Chester and
Philadelphia Park are both bringing in
more than $20 million a piece. Overall,
PA slot machines have brought in more
than $91 million, while AC slot machine
revenue is down 19%.
There are no real numbers to compare how
the slot machines will perform after
their first initial year in PA, because
they were not running last year they
can’t tell if there is an increase or
not. Some say it could simply be a
matter of initial curiosity with the
slot machine revenue evening out over
time, but many think that this is
probably not the case. Experts believe
that many will end up going to the slot
machines that are closest to them, which
means AC could be looking at lower
revenues from now on.
