Slot Machines for Great Canadian
Several
months ago we talked about the fact that
The Great Canadian Gaming Corp. had been
trying to get the Ontario Lottery and
Gaming Corp. to approve an expansion of
gambling for the park, and give them
more slot machines. Up until now,
Ontario Lottery has been dragging its
feet and not approving that addition of
the slot machines.
However, that was that, and Georgia
Downs is getting more slot machines, in
fact they are getting a whole lot of
slot machines. The track will be
increasing the number of slot machines
from 451 to 1,000.
Great Canadian will be investing $30.3
million to increase their slot machine
capacity. The slot machines are owned by
the government, and they are investing
$45.7 million on new equipment. The OLG
says that what it comes down to is more
slot machines mean more revenue for both
the track, the municipality and the
horse breeders. It also means more jobs,
as the new slot machines will end up
bringing in 90 more jobs to the area.
Innisfil is happy because this means
that they will be getting more money as
well, as they have already received more
than $23 million off of the first 450
slot machines. Now that they are more
than doubling the number of slot
machines, you can assume that their take
will get larger as well.
Innisfil's share of the take will also
increase, although Cronin says it's too
early to determine the town's bottom
line. It receives five per cent of the
slot revenues on the first 450 machines,
two per cent on the remaining machines.
