Capital and Mohegan Join Forces
The New
York Racing Association is still
fighting for the rights to hold onto New
York’s racing franchise, and there are
three other groups competing for the
rights as well. Now the Mohegan Sun
Tribal Gaming Authority has teamed up
with Capital Play, Inc. who already had
an application in for the franchise.
The Mohegan Sun would handle the slot
machine aspects of the tracks, while
Capital Play would handle the racing.
The Mohegan Sun has plenty of experience
with slot machines as they run slot
machine casinos in Connecticut and
Pennsylvania. The details of the
agreement between the two companies are
unknown.
The franchise operates the Aqueduct,
Belmont and Saratoga tracks, as well as
a slot machine casino at Aqueduct. There
is talk of bringing slot machines to
Belmont as well, something that will be
further discussed presumably after they
decide who is taking over the franchise.
Slot machines are currently illegal at
the track, but state officials have been
trying to change that.
Capital Play is based out of Australia,
and is a bookmaking business that allows
Australians to wager in North America.
They are one of four groups trying to
get the franchise and no matter who gets
it, final approval comes from Governor
Spitzer and the NY legislature.
